Unit 1: The Building Blocks of Music • Lesson 3

Objective

Students will identify and demonstrate loud (Forte) and soft (Piano) sounds through voice, movement, and classroom instruments.

Hide an instrument. Play it very softly, then very loudly. Ask students: "Was that a mouse sound or a lion sound?"

Use Loud and Soft Slides. Introduce the words "Forte" (shout it!) and "Piano" (whisper it!).

Active movement. When music is loud, stomp like an Elephant. When music is soft, tip-toe like a Mouse.

Let students try instruments. Sort them into "Loud Instruments" and "Soft Instruments" using the game cards.

Lay on the floor. Listen to a very soft piece of music. Can you hear the "Piano" sounds?
