The Structural Check (Hook)
Use the Story Blueprint Slides to discuss why buildings need blueprints. Ask: "What happens if a building is missing its foundation?" Connect this to story structure.
15 min
Inspection (Modeling)
Model the Complete Sentence Checklist. Write a fragment on the board (e.g., "The giant green monster") and have students help you "fix the foundation" to make it a complete sentence.
25 min
The Build (Independent Work)
Distribute the Story Architect Organizer. Students plan their narratives. Circulate and use the "Inspection Checklist" at the bottom of the page to give immediate feedback on their sentences.
10 min
Final Walkthrough (Sharing)
Students swap blueprints with a partner. Partners check for the 3 essentials: Capital, Punctuation, and Subject/Predicate.
On-Site Adjustments (Differentiation)
Scaffolding (Support)
Provide sentence stems for each box. (e.g., "The main character is ___.", "This story takes place in ___.") Have students highlight the subject in blue and the predicate in yellow.
Extension (Challenge)
Challenge advanced "architects" to include a compound or complex sentence in their Framework (Middle) section to add more detail to the action.
