Warm-up: Zoo Favorites (5 min)
Ask students to name their favorite animal at the zoo. What makes that animal special?
Prompt: "Imagine we are walking through the zoo gates. Which animal are you running to see first? Why is that animal the coolest one there?"
The First Vlog (5 min)
Watch "Me at the zoo". This is the first video ever on YouTube!
Guiding Question:
"What body part does the man say is cool?"
Observe
Discuss the grainy quality. Ask why there's no intro music or "Like/Subscribe" button.
Vocabulary
He says "really" three times! Talk about Improvised Speech (talking without a plan).
Activity: Trunk Tastic Art (15 min)
Students use the Trunk Talk Worksheet to draw their elephant.
- Emphasize the trunk (make it "really, really, really long").
- Label the trunk using the word bank.
- Encourage students to add "hay" in the background (as seen in the video).
Closure: Gallery Walk (5 min)
Share drawings and say one "cool thing" about their own work.
Reflection: "If you made a 19-second video today, what 'cool thing' would you show the world?"
